Community Centre for People with Disabilities, Hera

Posted: 9-25-12

Help And Nurture Developing Societies Inc.This year we are focusing our sights on building a Centre for People with Disabilities in Hera, Timor-Leste.  This project is being built along with teams from Yooralla.

Our teams have all been booked, with HANDS Team 1 travelling in August, and Team 2 in October.  Yooralla teams will travel throughout September, and local people will be employed for the duration of the build.

The aim of this project is to build a safe place for people living with a disability in the areas around Hera to attend physio as well as receive medical care if required.  There will be showers available, and education provided for the community about the needs of people with a disability.

Help and Nurture Developing Societies (HANDS) Inc. is a South-Australian, not for profit Chrsitian organisation, focusing on improving Health and Education in Timor Leste.

Formed in 2005 after returning from buiding a pre-school, we have completed projects in Hera and Sidara, including pre- and primary schools, and a health clinic.
We continue to provide funding for the ongoing development of teachers and nurses, and maintenance of the projects we build.

This is the building site, as at 27th September, seen from the road.

Yooralla team have just about packed to go home, leaving the two remaining HANDS Inc. teams with internals to complete.

We are aiming to have the centre completed and open in January 2013.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has assisted with this project.
