Lolotoe Scholarship fund
Lolotoe – a Sub-district of Bobonaro
The Lolotoe sub-district is located in rugged terrain 186kms south-west of the capital Dili and has a population of 8000 [2010 census]. There are seven sucos: Opa [main administration]; Lupal, Deudet,Guda, Lontas, Gildapil and Lesbos. Lolotoe is an 8 hour road-trip from Dili.
In 2009, Friends of Lolotoe [Timor-Leste] Inc. and the Mount Alexander Shire Council in Central Victoria entered into a Friendship Relationship with the Lolotoe sub-district community in East Timor to support the re-building of their communities and to engage in cultural exchange opportunities.
With no senior secondary school facilities, the Lolotoe community sought assistance for their young people to complete their secondary education and, where possible, enter university.
With the help of our wider community and our local partners, Castlemaine Rotary and the Castlemaine Secondary College, our Scholarship Fund is supporting students from the Lolotoe sub-district to achieve their aims.
In addition, the Castlemaine Secondary College donate educational [writing] materials and write pen pal letters – a project coordinated by the VCAL student stream.
